Windows Mobile (6.5 / WinMo 6.5) Marketplace Launched !

Seems M$ Windows Mobile Marketplace has been launched partly, although not available fully.

I thought I’ll check in MSDN blogs, and got some links which led me to a nice Silverlight based Windows Mobile Marketplace site.

image

Also, in US, only 2 devices will be available with WinMo 6.5 loaded tomorrow morning.

image

Also, only the US site is in Silverlight with comparison, other country sites are just web-pages, not with Silverlight.

image

And about other M$ features comes with any WinMo 6.5 are here.

image

Here are few snapshots of them and I’ve created even my first Custom Theme and downloaded to my laptop, yes, it’s running Win 7. Atleast for this we should try WinMo 6.5.

My Phone is not yet up, but check back on 6th Oct 09;

Also, like Zune HD, some crap games, so not worth to mention here.

It’s 1.79 MB, a CAB file, I can’t install as I dont’ have a WinMo 6.5 device yet. If someone can tell me how to install it in my iPhone 3G, that would be awesome.

BTW, you can send the custom theme to your mobile too.

i think pretty much most of the stuff are available, i couldn’t test rest except custom theme, cos, I don’t have a WinMo 6.5 yet. Planning to go for HTC Pure with AT&T. Let’s see tomorrow for more news.

Is M$ & Zune HD going to replace the way we browse, watch YouTube, etc. etc. @ Home ?

We all came to know today from NVIDIA’s announcement (though officially today, but we all knew it already) that Zune HD is powered with NVIDIA’s latest powerful Tegra processor from various sources. You can read more from the announcement NVIDIA Tegra Provides The Multimedia Muscle In Zune HD.

What came to my notice was the small catch of words at the last “always-on HD Internet”. I was not sure what is this, as sites like gizmodo.com, engadget.com didn’t mentioned about this when they talked about Zune HD. I though, let’s Bing it.

I got lot of details when I Binged about “always-on HD Internet”. Surprisingly I found the 1st link from the Bing’s decision search was another NVIDIA’s announcement MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 09—BARCELONA, SPAIN— FEBRUARY 16, 2009. Now, this announcement was about “NVIDIA Enables The World's First $99 HD Mobile Internet Device”. Ok, that’s fine. But, what’s that all about “always-on HD Internet”.

I just saw something mentioned as “Optimized hardware support for Web 2.0 applications for a true desktop-class internet experience”. Does this mean, we can Browse internet thru Zune HD, when it’s connected to our HDTV..? Can we browse YouTube video’s when Zune HD is connected to TV..? I think Zune HD doesn’t come with Bluetooth also,  so we can’t even connect a Keyboard/mouse. But, is that an option ?

Does this make sense, to browse / watch you tube in our HDTV using Zune HD, directly, without those all high priced Widget HDTV’s yet tobe launched in US…?

Bing - It's working. M$ had made it

I used to search everytime when i wanted to compare live search and google by searching the term "richmond", as live search gives some crap results earlier, google gives some relevant results wrt richmond city in virginia stage. Whenever M$ came out and told they improved live search, i do this, but retain google as my default search provider in IE.

Today, I searched richmond, it's really a surprise, i got relatively good results from Bing. Seems it's working. I went to IE Search providers and downloaded the plug-in and made it as my default search engine.

Nowadays, google also became as a URL / website search provider. No one remembers the site they wanted to go, just search in google, it tells you with options of related sites or exact site with URL.

But, Bing gives really nice way of categorization which google lacked for long time. I think Google taken it for granted that no one can replace them.

Let us see how best Bing performs in comming days.

Alchemy: Microsoft Silverlight in Embedded Platforms and it's really

Alchemy is Microsoft's Silverlight in Embedded Platforms. As M$ had removed the constraint on Silverlight can run outside of IE, it's making its way to run in Embedded Platforms.

Silverlight might be, mostly in Zune HD, few pictures are here.

More reading on Alchemy is here.

Windows 7 Release candidate / RC download – 7100 build – available in torrent

I was using Win 7 beta from day 1 it was released, upgraded from my vista sp2 beta, until my hp pavilion dv9500t due to some LCD issue.

When i got it back, hp restored my laptop to factory settings, i.e. Vista yesterday.

First thing i did was, as i know Win 7 RC is going tobe out by May 5th, i can’t wait, so searching for some torrent and found the below pointer.

Now, i’ve downloaded from the isohunt torrent url provided in the below article (url), verified it with the MD5 hash, it seems original Win 7 – 7100 build.

Downloaded this build, i.e. Windows 7 – RC 7100 ver and upgraded my Vista and writing this blog.

Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. It’s really fast, atleast 20% when compared to Beta version of Win 7 which i was using for almost till last week, for the last few months.

Now, with RC 7100 build, i think Windows 7 RC is very much stable compared to beta version, i mean, there’s no sluggishness in any area, whether it’s shutdown (takes just 1-2min), reboot (again 1-2min), IE 8 (really fast than the one available for XP or Vista). Wowwwwwwwwwwwww. In just 1 day i tried most of the features. Its really fast, now i need to see how stable, fast it is down the line in next few months.

I faced quite a few issues with below s/w with Win 7 Beta version, now i need to see these are working fine in RC are not.

1) McAffe

2) WebRoot spyware

3) Railroad Tycoon 3

4) SimCity 4

5) Download daemon sometimes gave issues

BTW, all these above were already installed when i upgraded to Win 7 beta from my Vista Sp2 beta, but, now, i dont’ have anything in my notebook, other than default OS and few HP s/w, Nortorn (did not work in Win 7 it said). So, i’ll install all these in Win 7 RC 7100 ver and see.

Will post again on Win 7. Anyway, Win 7 is gone be a really nice OS. All the best MS.

BTW, this time they’ve given until June 1st, 2010 time to evaluate Win 7 7100 RC version. Again Yahoooooooooo.

One more thing i noticed was in Win 7 Beta it was showing my laptop Rating as 2.2, now, im not sure, it’s changed to 3.9. HP only changed my LCD, so, that should not impact this rating. Anyway, 2.2 was totally wrong as my Vista was showing as 4.9, now, i feel, 3.9 is OK, since Win 7 requirements might’ve changed and this laptop is now 18months old, so, 3.9 is fine compared to 2.2 which can’t be. But, it was Win 7 beta, so, i didnt’ paid much interest on M$ rating of 2.2. Now, in RC 7100, 3.9 might be OK in my opinion.

“Anyway, who cares what’s the Rating / min requirements are if the OS is really fast.”, like in iPhone 3G, no one cares whats’ the hardware spec are, as the hardware is able to work without any sluggishness for basic operations. Ofcourse it starts hanging nowadays once we’ve more than 50+ applications on it. This above 1 line statement is a User Statement on, which M$ need to pay more attention in Win Mobile 6.5 also.

Let’s not go off-topic to this post.

image

Let me experience for some more days and see how Win 7 RC performs. I hope it’ll keep its promises.

Windows 7 beta download update

See the below blog to get an update on when Windows 7 Beta (public beta) will be agailable - http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/MainFeed.aspx

Windows 7 Beta available now URL - http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

As we all knew that Windows 7 Beta / public Beta is going to be available for public download 9th Jan 2009, afternoon. It’ll be available only for 2.5 mi users.

But, it’s already available. Yes, the URL is available, which I found out by going thru the HTML of the Windows 7 website. It’s there in the menu, but, it’s not visible right now (now time is 1.33am EST). I tried the URL, but it goes somewhere else to technet. I think they validate the time and if it’s not reached, it’s redirecting to technet. Or it might be available for download in technet itself on 9th afternoon.

URL: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx

Code having Windows 7 Beta url: Right Click in the homepage and click “View Source” or click “V”, you’ll get a html file opened in a notepad (guys like me knew it). You can find the below code.

1: <li>
2: <a href="/windows/windows-7/beta-videos.aspx"
3: onclick="javascript:omniModTracking(this,'SubNav','',
4: '/windows/windows-7/beta-videos.aspx',1,
'Videos','');"
>
5: Videos
6: </a>
7: </li>
8: <li class="lastItem">
9: <a href="/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx"
10: onclick="javascript:omniModTracking(this,'SubNav','',
11: '/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx',1,
'Download the Windows 7 Beta','');"
>
12: Download the Windows 7 Beta
13: </a>
14: </li>

So, we need to look at the top of this Windows 7 public Beta. So, the homepage would look like below.

Download the Windows 7 Beta

It’s not going to the download site now. I too selfish, though i’ll download and post it. But, it doesn’t work anyway. Whoever see this blog and download it before i wake up tomorrow morning, need to share it for me :) Good night….! Windows 7 Dreams….

Reply to : “Reasons to skip Microsoft’s Windows 7 Beta download, posted by Sam Diaz @ 11:08 am @ blogs.zdnet.com” by a hardcode MS guy

This is a Reply to: Reasons to skip Microsoft’s Windows 7 Beta download

· I know it seems silly to ask but… is there a specific time on Jan. 9? Here in Silicon Valley, our clocks will be among the last in the world to reach the midnight hour.

Reply for Q1) Dude, Your Question is right, but, it shows that you’re desperate to be one of those 2.5 million allowed public user. You know how many downloaded in torrent sites the pre-betas..? It’s more than 65,000 for more than few weeks/months.

· Windows 7 Beta will expire on Aug. 1, 2009. Huh? Expire? So everything just resorts back to the older crappy version of Windows?

Reply for Q2) What else you want from a Beta version. Hope this’s not the 1st time you’ve heard the word “Beta” in your life time…? Any Beta will expire. Aug. 1st is too much. Its 7 months for evaluating an OS beta s/w.

· Be prepared to lose data.

Reply for Q3) For mentioning all these info itself, you guys make such a noise. If they/bloggers don’t mention like this, you’ll come and sue them for losing your data for evaluating a Beta s/w.

· Then there’s the No. 2 item on Ed Bott’s “Five things Steve Ballmer won’t tell you about Windows 7” blog entry: Good luck finding drivers for all your old XP-only hardware.

Reply for Q4) XP came almost 8 yrs back. Definitely you may need luck to find a driver for your 1 decade old OS. This is the simple reason, Mac sell OS X in their hardware. Common dear, give me a break.

· Finally, even if you love Windows 7 and are willing to let it expire in August because the buzz is that it will be available again by the holiday season - think again.

Reply for Q5) Not available again, the release version of Windows 7 itself will be available by that time.

If you had a chance, go and see how Apple’s getting blamed for their iPhone Updates. After each Update, an existing feature of iPhone is being screwed up. So, better SOS. Instead of blogging about Windows 7, try to blog about the buggy iPhone Patches.

iPhone 3g BLANK Picture problem resolution – After updating with Apple’s iPhone 2.2 update

Hi All

I got a problem with my camera. It just take pictures, but it’s all blank / white in my iPhone 3g after i update it with 2.2 update. I’ve jailbreak it with 2.2 also, nothing works. Video does not have any issue. I tried above option, but, it didn't worked for me.

I found below URL; http://modmyi.com/forums/ziphone/32461-problems-iphone-camera.html

Bottomline, you need to execute below command in SSH command prompt.

It's basically DCIM needs -R permission ( i think read, im not a unix guy, im a .net guy).

I followed the below url, since 1st time im doing ssh. I used putty, but, since i dont have much knowledge of unix commands, i used WinSCH as mentioned in the below URL;

Step 1: Go to URL - http://sleepers.net/blank/install-and-use-ssh/

Step 2: Download and follow this section "On Windows (using WinSCP)" for just login only, not the whole section. Once you login, come to "Step 3" below. Before you click "Login" in WinSCP, see the Note below, which might be useful.

Note: Before you click login, makesure you click Advanced settings and select "Windows Explorer style"  property instead of Novel style.

Step 3: Now, once you're in you'll be in the below node "/private/var/root/Media"

Step 4: Go to "/ <root>" folder and now navigate to the below folder "/var/mobile/Media"

Step 5: Now, in WinSCP, select the folder "Media"

Step 6: Now, in WinSCP, at the Top, you can see a BLACK icon called "HOM" (there will be only 1 black icon). Just click that

Step 7: It opens up a Terminal Window

Step 8: In the "Enter Command" give below command;

chown -R mobile DCIM

Step 9: Now, click the button "Execute"

Step 10: If the Terminal window shows as below, then you're all set.

/var/mobile/Media$ chown -R mobile DCIM

Take a picture, you'll be able to see it, and no BLANK picture problem. It's resolved.

Step 11: If it throws an error saying "no folder DCIM exist, it means, you've not selected the right folder. Basically you should be 1 folder up of DCIM folder.

Tx & Regards
